Hundreds of runners joined in for a fun and challenging morning during the Keffer Cares Boulder Dash 5k and 5-Miler at Martin Marietta’s Charlotte Quarry in September.

The course showcased the operation and Martin Marietta’s commitment to producing quality aggregate for the communities it serves.

“Two years ago, the team at Charlotte Quarry recognized that we could do more to support our neighbors in the Historic West End of Charlotte. In a little over 12 months, the Boulder Dash has quickly raised more than $50,000, directly impacting our local community. The beneficiaries of this race operate facilities that improve the lives of our neighbors,” said Charlotte District Production Manager Adam Thompson.

Testing the runner’s endurance, the race occurred in and out of the pit, with a 400-foot elevation difference.

Afterward, the site hosted a community day for participants to learn more about the quarry and its operations.

“We are proud to operate here, and this race is a means to give back and show appreciation for our community,” Thompson said.
